Scored by Ayub Rana against our published methodology.

Alpha Capital Group is a UK-based prop firm whose flagship Alpha Pro 2-step evaluation runs $97 (10K) to $997 (200K), using a static 10% maximum drawdown with a 5% balance-based daily limit and 10%/5% phase targets. It also sells Alpha One (1-step, 6% trailing), Alpha Swing (weekend holding permitted), and Alpha Three (3-step) variants. The performance split is 80% (90% via paid add-on), payouts are bi-weekly or on-demand via Rise, Wise, or bank transfer, and on-demand withdrawals require a 40% best-day rule plus at least 2% profit. News trading is restricted in 2-5 minute windows on funded accounts and 3 minimum trading days apply per phase.

  • News trading allowed
  • EAs allowed
  • 40% consistency cap
  • 3 minimum trading days
  • Weekend holding allowed

Pros & Cons

Alpha Capital pros & cons

The strengths and trade-offs our editors weigh when scoring this firm.

What traders like

  • Six evaluation routes across 1-step, 2-step and 3-step formats, so traders can pick the drawdown model that suits them rather than one fixed challenge.
  • Weekend and overnight holding is allowed at every stage on Alpha One, Alpha Three and Alpha Swing, which many competitors restrict to a paid swing add-on.
  • Payouts can be taken bi-weekly from a $100 minimum profit, or on-demand, and the firm states performance fees are processed within 2 business days.
  • Leadership is publicly named on the firm's own about page (founder and MD George Kohler, co-founder Andrew Blaylock) and the UK company is registered at Companies House.

What to watch

  • The rulebook is dense: a 2-minute average trade duration rule requiring at least 50% of profit from trades held over 2 minutes, per-plan lot caps, an IP rule, and a 30-day inactivity deactivation.
  • On-demand withdrawals are gated by a 40% best-day rule, so no single day may account for more than 40% of cumulative profit.
  • Qualified Analyst accounts on Alpha Pro, One, Three and Direct face a 10-minute news blackout (5 minutes either side of high impact releases) that also catches stop-loss and take-profit triggers as a soft breach.
  • Expert Advisors are limited to non-executing risk and trade management tools; fully automated execution, third-party bots, HFT and latency arbitrage are prohibited, and EAs are unavailable on cTrader, DXtrade and TradeLocker.
  • Alpha Pro does not allow weekend holds on the Qualified Account stage, unlike the other plans.
  • The Trustpilot profile carries a platform guidelines warning, recorded separately.

Read the fine print

  • Evaluation fee is not refunded on passing; the firm states the fee buys platform access and evaluation, and passing leads to performance fees rather than a fee refund.
  • Swing plan permits overnight and weekend holds at every stage; payouts on Alpha Swing are on-demand only.

Rules

Alpha Capital rules, explained

The rules that actually get traders breached: what they are and how this firm sets them.

Alpha Capital trading rules summary
RuleAlpha CapitalWhy it matters
Drawdown typeHybridTrailing drawdown follows your equity peak and is the #1 cause of surprise breaches; static drawdown is fixed from starting balance and far more forgiving.
Consistency rule40% cap per dayCaps how much of your total profit can come from a single day. A strict cap can delay or void payouts for traders with a few big wins.
News tradingAllowedSome firms void trades placed around high-impact news releases, which is critical if you trade NFP, CPI, or rate decisions.
Expert advisors (EAs)AllowedDetermines whether automated strategies and copiers are permitted, and whether an EA can get your account flagged.
Minimum trading days3 daysThe floor on how fast you can pass a phase, which matters if you trade infrequently or want to pass quickly.
Weekend / overnight holdingAllowedSwing traders need positions to survive the Friday close. Where holding is barred, open trades are closed for you and gaps cannot be traded.
Copy tradingNot allowedDecides whether you can mirror one strategy across several accounts. Most firms that allow it restrict it to accounts you own yourself.
High-frequency tradingNot allowedFirms police latency arbitrage and tick scalping hard, and an HFT breach is one of the most common reasons a passed account is voided.
